Real Madrid defender Antonio Rüdiger has expressed admiration for Arsenal centre-back William Saliba and revealed that if he could sign any player, it would be the Frenchman.
Rüdiger’s comments come amidst ongoing speculation linking Saliba with a move to Real Madrid, as well as interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
In an interview with The Inside Scoop, Rüdiger praised the 23-year-old Arsenal defender, describing him as a “silent leader” who excels in his role.
“If you see Arsenal, like the two centre backs who are playing together, they are doing since two years now, they’re doing an amazing job,” said Rüdiger.
Rüdiger praised Gabriel Magalhães for his more aggressive leadership style, noting how the pair has been pivotal to Arsenal‘s defensive success. “Like the transformation from Arsenal, that was a bit before and now, and those two are the pillar of it,” he said.
“You have with Gabriel the more aggressive leader and for example Saliba is, this brother plays clean. No, really, you have to give it to him. You know, he looks like a silent leader.”
After talking about Karim Benzema as “the best footballer I have ever played with,” he was asked about the player he would sign for Real Madrid. “I would sign William Saliba,” Rüdiger replied.
While Rüdiger is keen on Real Madrid moving for Saliba, the Frenchman has given no indication of wanting to leave Arsenal. His contract until 2027 secures his future at the club, and there is no active interest in selling him.
Rumours have been circulating for some time about Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain potentially making a big-money offer for Saliba, but sources, including journalist Fabrizio Romano, have dismissed these claims.
Romano reports that no talks or offers have been made by PSG, and Saliba is happy at Arsenal.
Despite the gossip surrounding Saliba, Arsenal remain firm in their stance.
The defender has been a key part of Mikel Arteta’s side as they challenge Manchester City for Premier League supremacy, and his importance to the club is undeniable.
