After a frustrating draw against Nottingham Forest at home, the knives are out for a few Chelsea players.
Mykhailo Mudryk only came on for a late cameo, but on TalkSport Jason Cundy moaned that the winger “doesn’t have football IQ.”
We actually though Mudryk did pretty well in his cameo – he stood up a wonderful cross which should have been headed in by Joao Felix. But we agree with the overall sentiment. There’s a very good reason he’s not playing every week, and in fact is now relegated to the B team entirely.
A game like yesterday, where you’re trying to unpick a deep defence, is not the one for him. Although, having said that, Jadon Sancho didn’t do much better in his time on the pitch. At least Mudryk has the pace to ask some questions of defenders.
You can see the pundit speaking in the clip embedded here:
We have never been Mudryk fans, and we’re pretty certain that behind the scenes the sporting directors are well aware of their mistake by now. But yesterday Sancho had far more time on the pitch and didn’t do much with it either. That’s despite this being the exact sort of game he was brought in to play. He’s supposed to be the technical ball player on the left able to combine with his teammates and create chances against deep blocks.
Then there’s Felix. Not only did he mess up Mudryk’s excellent cross and spurn the chance to win the game, he barely contributed an attacking effort beyond that. As usual, he came on and joined a very intense with the demeanour of someone more interested in just doing some cool first touches and nice tricks rather than forcing the ball into the net by any means necessary.
So for once, maybe let’s lay off Misha.
