Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique is under fire following the 2-0 loss to Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League and then the 1-1 draw in Ligue 1. As a result, one pundit believes that Mikel Arteta might have exposed flaws in the PSG gaffer.
At the start of the 2024-25 season, the capital club got off to an impressive start, scoring 16 goals in their first four matches and having a seven-match unbeaten streak. However, these last two contests are the first hurdles Enrique and his team are facing this campaign.
The FIFA international window couldn’t come at a better time as the squad can reset and the Spanish tactician figures out what’s going on with his team. With the recent struggles, one pundit stated that he’s fed up with Enrique’s strategy.
“I’m willing to wait as long as it takes for Luis Enrique; it doesn’t bother me at all,” Christophe Dugarry said on RMC Sport (h/t Le10Sport). “I have all the time in the world. But when it comes to the game, I don’t see much collective progress. I just don’t feel that way. He often compares himself to Arteta and Guardiola, especially with Arsenal.
“But I think it’s pretty evident that Nuno Mendes should continue in his position, yet he’s been playing him as a third central defender, which prevents him from using his flank effectively. I really don’t get it; there’s a problem there. And with Ruiz, who is so impressive for the Spanish national team, he seems to be dribbling aimlessly, and everything he does looks lackluster.
“I can’t figure out what Luis Enrique is trying to achieve. And when he’s put on the spot and needs to explain things to the fans, he has nothing to say.”
Coming out of the international window, PSG will clash with RC Strasbourg and then PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League; it will be interesting to see if the Ligue 1 side can get back on track.
