Bayern Munich stumbled in the Frauen-Bundesliga for the first time this season in an away match at recent title contender VfL Wolfsburg.
This year’s Wolfsburg squad is not the same. After being a force in the Bundesliga for years, the Wolfsburg Frauen began to slip last season, and the gap only seemed to widen at the start of 2024/25.
But for one day, Wolfsburg turned the clock back and delivered a 2-0 win over the Bavarians.
Vivien Endemann got to the scoring going early with a in the 5th minute after a disastrous back-pass from Jovana Damnjanović.
Damnjanović was stretchered off the field after a scary head collision in the first half.
Bayern had a golden chance to strike back before the break. Lea Schüller played in Pernille Harder through on goal with a clever flick, but the former Chelsea FC star dragged her effort wide.
Long-time former Bayern Munich star Lineth Beerensteyn delivered the crushing blow of a second in the 67th minute immediately after coming on for Jule Brand, in a mad scramble in front of goal. Bayern would not recover.
And so it was that after a roaring Champions League victory over Arsenal FC just days ago, the Bayern Frauen stumbled for the first time this season — in a match with potentially key Bundesliga title implications.
