Former Liverpool star Emile Heskey believes Chelsea could be contenders for the Premier League title this season under Enzo Maresca.
The Blues have made a good start to the season and currently sit fourth with 14 points from a possible 21 and are unbeaten since the opening day of the season.
Maresca’s fine start to life at Stamford Bridge saw him recently named Premier League Manager of the Month for September, but he now faces a tough run of fixtures.
Heskey thinks Chelsea could challenge for the title
Chelsea’s next four league games are against Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester United and Arsenal, a run which will tell us a lot about just how good the team is and what they might be capable of this season.
It’s only early days but Maresca has managed to instil signs of a clear identity and style of play, with the players responding well to what’s being asked of them.
The Blues are the second highest scorers in the league with 16 goals, one behind Manchester City and anything is possible with Cole Palmer in their ranks, with sporting director Paul Winstanley believing he has what it takes to one day win the Ballon d’Or.
Chelsea have taken some by surprise with their start to the season and whilst getting back into the Champions League is their number one priority, some have mentioned them as possible title contenders.
Former Premier League striker Heskey believes that Maresca’s men could possibly challenge for the title and make it a four way race.
“I think Chelsea are the one team that can be a disruptive influence this season,” he told 10 Bet as cited on X.com.
“I’m tempted to say that Chelsea could even challenge for the Premier League title and make it a four-way race.”
Whilst talk of the title is very premature and wide of the mark, no one really knows what to expect from Chelsea this season, but if they pick up positive results in this run of fixtures there could be more people putting them in the title race conversation.
