Tottenham have a right-back-shaped problem at their hands right now.
Dani Caravajal’s season-ending injury has prompted Real Madrid to intense their search for a new fullback ahead of a January move. On their wishlist also lies Tottenham’s Pedro Porro, who has not outright quashed the reports linking him with a move to Madrid.
With Emerson Royal departed, Archie Gray still fairly young, and Djed Spence preferred only sporadically, the Lilywhites need a right-back of their own, and it looks like they have at least started looking at their options.
Tottenham targeting Atalanta defender Raoul Bellanova
As reported by TBR Football, Tottenham are monitoring Atalanta fullback Raoul Bellanova.
The Italy international is in his second stint with the Bergamaschi, having joined in the summer from Torino for €20 million, and already his performances are attracting interests from bigger clubs.
So far this season, Bellanova has made nine appearances, delivering a goal and assist each.
Valued by Transfermarkt at €15 million, the AC Milan academy graduate has at Atalanta a €3.33m-per-year contract running until June 2029.
So it begins
Tottenham already needed to reinforce themselves in the right-back slot; Real Madrid’s plight has only made things worse for them.
The Bellanova links at least hint at the fact that Spurs are considering their options in the market, which is prudent of them. If they play their cards right, they may be able to turn a profit by moving Porro on and getting in a bargain replacement.
Whom they ultimately chose to go after come January will be a different ball game altogether, however, considering who sits on the manager’s seat in a few months’ time.
