Former Bayern Munich playmaker Mario Götze recently reflected upon his move in the book “Stimmen der Eintracht”. He spoke about his stubbornness regarding his move to Bayern. Per @DIEZEIT via @iMiaSanMia, in a letter to himself, he mentioned: “I know you don’t think much of it when I tell you: stay in Dortmund a bit longer. It will be good for you and your development.”
He didn’t listen to this piece of advice at the time though: “I didn’t pay attention to that advice either. You only see yourself, your career. I was stubborn. I was ambitious. We had won the Bundesliga twice and once the double with BVB. But that didn’t change anything.”
Nothing would have changed his mind: “I had put the transfer in my head. I don’t know who could have convinced me to change my decision”. That move was the start of Götze’s downfall. He would find himself back at Borussia Dortmund and things would not quite work out. He would go on to head to the Netherlands to play for PSV to resurrect his career. He now plays a more defensive role in Eintracht Frankfurt’s midfield.
