In a long interview with kicker, former Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge touched on several topics, including the upcoming game against FC Barcelona in the Champions League next week. When asked about their current coach, Rummenigge praised Hansi Flick for his work at Bayern and said he had been a “victim of the DFB”.
“Hansi is a very good coach,” said the former Ballon d’Or winner. “You don’t win seven titles in a year and a half if you’re not a good coach. Over time, Hansi became a victim of the DFB, which was totally unstable at the time.”
KHR added details about “I know Hansi and understand him as a person. When he was with us, he came to my office three times a week to drink an espresso and talk about all sorts of things.”
“He needs people he can trust – and sorry, with all due respect, he didn’t have that at the DFB. I told him at the time: “Be careful.”
On his work at FC Barcelona, Rummenigge seemed happy that Hansi had landed on his feet.
“He is successful and is doing his job well. I’m happy for him. At a club that is certainly not easy to coach in this environment. They are top of the table in La Liga.”
Bayern Munich and Hansi Flick are set for a reunion later this month, when the Bavarians travel to Spain for their third game in the Champions League this season.
