According to a report by Sport Bild (via @iMiaSanMia), the DFL is planning on introducing semi-automated offside technology to German football in the near future. Clubs from the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga are expected to take part in a vote which, if approved, would allow the technology to be used from the beginning of next season.
Semi-automated offside tech is already available in European competitions like the UEFA Champions League, and the DFL has always been receptive to the idea of using new technology to streamline the refereeing process. While VAR in the Premier League continues to generate controversy every single matchday, the Germans get it right (most of the time — refs, amirite?).
How will this be received by Bayern Munich? You’d imagine that, given the system is already in use for the CL, Bayern would have no qualms with it being implemented at the league level as well. Of course, there are plenty of other clubs, and pressure from fan groups besides. It remains to be seen if the DFL will get the green light to implement this new tech for the coming season.
