Chelsea are not in ‘hot pursuit’ of one 19-year-old left back who is actually a self-confessed fan of the club, according to one report that has come out this weekend.
The Blues, who seem to be well stacked in the left back position right now with Marc Cucurella, Ben Chilwell, and Renato Veiga, apparently now want another one!
Please do join my own personal Chelsea Substack community where I put out five daily articles, a weekly podcast, and a number of exclusive and sourced insides stories from Cobham and transfer news!
Veiga of course can play as a centre back and as a defensive midfielder, and he actually recently made his debut for his national team, Portugal, as a centre back. So he might not be considered as an out and out left back and might be just that his flexibility and quality sees him playing there at times.
Cucurella appears to be Chelsea’s number one choice at left back for now, but I guess a move away in the future can never be ruled out even though he seems set and happy at the club right now.
Chilwell is highly likely to be leaving Chelsea in the next available window, which will be January, providing the club can find a suitor for him. If not in January, then I’d be shocked if he didn’t leave in the summer.
So I guess the left back spot may well be an area on the pitch that Chelsea might want to improve in fairly soon, and according to The Daily Mirror, they’re already looking to do so.
Chelsea and Spurs in a battle
They claim that Chelsea and Tottenham are still chasing Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu – despite the player penning a new contract in Italy.
Chelsea had initially planned to sign Dorgu for their sister club Strasbourg apparently, but the numbers involved were too costly to complete the operation.
They say that it is Tottenham who currently appear to be leading the transfer race. However, Dorgu is a self-confessed Chelsea supporter according to the report, which could impact any decision over his future.
