There’s an increasing amount of rumours in the press about Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei.
He was recalled from loan at Leicester in January, and has since spent most of his time on the bench. This season he has just two starts – one in the Conference League and one in the Carabao Cup. But that’s not stopped teams following him, mainly from his home country of Italy.
But today a new name from a new league is thrown into the mix – Villareal in Spain are apparently keen on the 21 year old, according to Italian transfer site TMW. They join teams like Fiorentina and Atalanta who were mentioned back in the summer, and likely still maintain an interest in the rangy midfielder, who continues to impress in Italy’s youth teams, but will need a move if he wants to reach the next level.
Casadei waits for the right moment to make his move
Even though Enzo Maresca is starting to show more faith in Casadei, making him an established part of the second string “B team” lineup in recent weeks, it still seems likely that the club would happily cash in on him in January if a good offer came in.
The same would be even more true in the summer. We just can’t see Casadei ever making it as a Chelsea regular, so a move at the right moment would suit everyone. A January departure wouldn’t hurt the squad too much either, with players like Carney Chukwuemeka on hard to take up any spare midfield minutes.
We paid £12.6m to Inter Milan for him, and would likely be looking to make a profit on him, despite his lack of minutes played since he arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2022.
