Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher believes that if Chelsea want to challenge again at the very top, then they need to replace one player and sign a new one in his position.
His Sky co-pundit Gary Neville has already been speaking about the one position he thinks Chelsea need to sign in to become title challengers again, and he firmly believes that they need a new world class striker to come in and give real competition to Nicolas Jackson, and I fully agree.
EXCLUSIVE! Barcelona eyeing Chelsea midfielders, Blues could capitalise on their interest in Barca defender – and also now eyeing Benfica centre back!
But there is perhaps another position that Chelsea still need to sign in, and that has been highlighted by Carragher after he saw his former club Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-1 at Anfield in front of the Sky cameras last night.
Carragher was shocked by how poor Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was for Liverpool’s winning goal, scored by midfielder Curtis Jones. Carragher believes Sanchez was timid in coming out and should have done more to block the shot and get in front of it. It was a very weak effort by Sanchez, who has come under a lot of criticism lately from Chelsea fans as well as pundits and the media.
Carragher unhappy with Sanchez
Speaking on Sky Sports after the game in words cited by Goal, Carragher said: “It’s so poor from Chelsea’s point. Reece James ambles in there. The goalkeeper is so poor. It was a poor touch from Curtis Jones really, and it’s poor from the goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez.
“Sanchez has got to go and win that ball. Jones should be terrified that a goalkeeper is coming towards him. You have got to get there and hope it hits you in the face and you keep it out. Chelsea need a new goalkeeper if they want to get back to where they want to be.”
He’s spot on here.
