Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville does not believe Liverpool or Chelsea will be competing for top spot at the end of the campaign.
Speaking after the Reds 2-1 win at Anfield on Sunday, Neville said that he can “only” see Arsenal as having a genuine chance of challenging Manchester City:
“Would these two teams [at Anfield] win the title? I don’t think so. What Liverpool are doing defensively at the moment is interesting. I’d like to assess it at Christmas. I still think they’re short.”
“Chelsea are short, they’re not going to win the league. I think Arsenal are the only team that can take on City. But you can’t afford to fall too many points behind.”
What is the state of play in the Premier League?
Liverpool’s victory against Chelsea means they have retaken first place from Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola‘s side having briefly gone top following their last-gasp win over Wolves earlier in the day.
After Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth, there is now a three-point gap between the Gunners and the Cityzens.
City are favourites to win the title once again
The serious injury sustained by Rodri had led to punters backing Arsenal for top spot, but the events this weekend have changed the dynamic.
The Gunners’s loss to Bournemouth has moved them back down to second favourites at the bookmakers, with Guardiola’s team regarded as frontrunners, having odds as short as 5/4.
Despite being 1st, Liverpool are still viewed as outsiders, with Arne Slot’s side being priced at 11/4 by several bookies. In terms of Chelsea, the defeat at Anfield on Sunday has led to their odds lengthening considerably. You won’t see prices below 20/1 with the Blues now having fallen seven points drift.
