Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich is hungry to win a trophy with Germany. Since joining the national team, Germany has seen some of its worst moments in its football history. Failure after failure at big tournaments, including some notable defeats in friendlies that shouldn’t happen. Kimmich is aware of this and is ready to change the dialogue.
After beating Netherlands, Germany officially clinched qualification to the quarter finals of the UEFA Nations League. On top of that it would be a monumental collapse at this point to not win the group. Joshua Kimmich was recently asked on the goal to win the group.
“Absolutely. Last time at the Euros, winning the group didn’t help us that much, but rather put us on a more difficult path with the quarter-final against Spain. But we still want to win the group and get the victory we need in November against Bosnia or Hungary,” Kimmich told kicker (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
It is true that Germany’s late goal actually might have sealed their fate at EURO 2024. The game-tying goal against Switzerland led them to Spain, which only beat Germany via a controversial missed penalty call. If Germany goes into the other side of the bracket, it is likely Germany would have made it to the finals and play Spain in a different scenario, although the end result might have been the same.
Winning the group should still be the goal, regardless of bad blood on the last tournament’s bracket. However, Germany are certainly shaping up to be possible favorites for next Summer’s Nations League regardless of who they face in the quarterfinals.
