To Bayern Munich fans, Von-sonn (/vɛ̃.sɑ̃/). To his players, Vinnie. It sounds like new Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany is quickly building a strong rapport with his group, with even squad players — who are not receiving the most playing time — raving about his approach.
Defensive midfielder João Palhinha, like Kompany, is new to Bayern Munich. But he seems to have taken quickly to his new team, and credits the boss man.
“He’s a coach of the new generation,” Palhinha enthused in an early October Sport Bild interview (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “What sets his work apart is that he has a good relationship with each and every one of us. This is important for the team spirit, no one feels left alone. The coach always has an open ear for us and is close to us. It’s important to feel that in order to be able to understand his ideas quicker. I’m very happy with Vinnie.”
And now that the Champions League weeks are here and the ex-Fulham man has had time to adapt from the English Premier League, Palhinha may get his chance to make his mark on this Bayern season.
