As is the case for most of Bayern Munich’s Champions League games, the club almost always gets dodgy referees (mostly English) during huge matchups in the quest to win Ol’ Big Ears. FC Barcelona await the Bavarians and the person in charge of this tale-old clash is Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić.
This news was broken by Bayern news aggregator @iMiaSanMia on Twitter, who added that the 44-year-old has officiated a Bayern game two times prior: the 1-1 draw with Villarreal in the Quarterfinals of the 2021/22 campaign and the 3-0 win over Lazio last season.
In the current campaign, the Bavarians have one win (9-2 vs Dinamo Zagreb) and one loss (1-0 to Aston Villa) so far and sit 15th on the 32-team table. The Rekordmeister has every chance to finish in the top eight teams which would guarantee progression to the last 16, and they can start with a routine win over their Spanish rivals.
Could Bayern Munich actually lose to FC Barcelona? What happens if we do? How do the two teams stack up? We discuss those questions and more in the newest episode of our podcast! Listen to it below or on Spotify.
