Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona have recently expressed significant interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich. The veteran midfielder’s situation at Bayern Munich has taken an unexpected turn since Vincent Kompany took over as manager.
Kompany has played a vital role in this situation, reportedly urging the club to do everything possible to retain the German international. However, Kimmich did leave the door open for a potential departure with his recent remarks.
Although the midfielder’s contract expires next June, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Bayern Munich are confident that Kimmich will sign a new contract extension soon.
Earlier this month, Fichajes reported that Bayern Munich have acted swiftly to secure one of its key players by offering Joshua Kimmich a new contract with a substantial pay raise—something he had been looking for.
Joshua Kimmich talks about his future amid Barcelona links
Discussing his future ahead of Wednesday night’s UEFA Champions League match between Bayern Munich and Barcelona, Kimmich didn’t dismiss the idea of a move to Camp Nou.
“In football, one can never make the mistake of ruling out possibilities,” Kimmich told reporters (h/t TEAMTalk). “Now, to answer directly, I’m not thinking about it at the moment, but in football you should never rule anything out.”
“It’s certainly strange to play against them. It’s a special moment; it’s always special to play against Barça. We’ve played against them quite a few times in recent years. It’ll be interesting to meet up with Hansi again, and we’re looking forward to it.
“As I’ve just said, playing against Barça is always something very special. I’ve been linked with Barça on several occasions, but it’s not any more special for that reason. It’s special because it’s a very important club, with a very rich and successful tradition, and a very good team.”
