Arsenal legend David Seaman has praised Enzo Maresca and believes he’s getting the best out of striker Nicolas Jackson.
It was no secret the Blues were looking to sign a striker in the summer and they pursued Victor Osimhen for the majority of the window, but couldn’t reach an agreement with the Nigerian.
Former Blue Glen Johnson feels it would be crazy for Chelsea to not try and sign Osimhen, but it remains to be seen what the club’s stance is on the Nigeria international.
Seaman praises Maresca for getting the best out of Jackson
Jackson arrived from Spanish side Villarreal in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth £32m and impressed in his debut season with 17 goals in all competitions, 14 of which came in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old was rewarded for his efforts with a two year contract extension keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2033.
A lot was made of Chelsea not signing a striker but Jackson’s start to the season, coupled with the goalscoring form of Christopher Nkunku has shown that might not have been a bad thing.
The Senegal international scored his fifth goal of the season against Liverpool with a well taken finish and now has eight goal contributions in eight games.
Gary Neville still feels Chelsea need to sign a top class striker if they are to challenge for the title, but Jackson is showing he could be the man.
However, Seaman has praised Maresca and believes he’s getting the best out of the forward, and feels a lot of people were doubting him.
“He’s (Maresca) getting the best out of Jackson as well. A lot of people were doubting him at the start of the season weren’t they,” he told his Seaman Says podcast.
Jackson has established himself as Chelsea’s first choice striker and has proven to be a really good value for money signing.
If he continues to develop how he is then you could genuinely ask the question about whether the Blues do need to sign a new striker.
