Guglielmo Vicario thinks Tottenham have not collected as many points as they warranted in the Premier League
Tottenham Hotspur have shown signs of recovery after a slow start to the 2024/25 Premier League season.
Spurs only amassed four points from their opening four games had left the head coach Ange Postecoglou in a spot of bother. Back-to-back defeats to Newcastle United and Arsenal resulted in the Lilywhites’ worst start to the season in nine years.
However, Ange Postecoglou and Co. have done well since the North London derby defeat to Arsenal. They did suffer a setback on the road to Brighton and Hove Albion—thanks to their shock capitulation from 2-0 up to lose 3-2 before the October international break—but showed great character in their 4-1 win over London counterparts West Ham United at home last weekend.
The result took Tottenham to seventh in the table with 13 points on the board, now just four points off fourth-placed Aston Villa.

While performance levels and results have significantly improved of late—as witnessed in the big wins over Brentford, Manchester United and West Ham, Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario thinks it has been a “so-so” start to the league campaign. He thinks despite the team playing well, they have not picked as many points as they actually merited.
“From a playing point of view we expressed a lot and perhaps achieved a little less than we deserved. Evidently, if we didn’t collect points, something is missing, there is definitely something to improve, we need to work on it,” Guglielmo Vicario said in an interview with Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness).
“It’s a so-so start, let’s say, we could have collected more but we look to the future with confidence.”
Vicario is slowly growing into a reliable goalkeeper in the Premier League. While he has been criticized since arriving at the Hotspur Way from Empoli in the summer of 2023, he has played a pivotal role in changing Big Ange’s side’s initial build-up phase and complements his reflexes and shot-stopping abilities well.
The 28-year-old—as evidenced by his words in the aforementioned interview—appears to be a leader on and off the pitch. It speaks volumes about the Italy international’s mentality that he isn’t satisfied with the telling improvements Spurs have made on the pitch this season and wants his teammates to improve further.

Also, Spurs’ undisputed No.1’s frank admission is a clear indication that while Big Ange’s side have been performing well in certain aspects, they have fallen short of turning those performances into a consistent run of results. So, let’s hope our team irons out the mistakes at the back and become more clinical to amass more points in the Premier League and end the season with a trophy or two.
