Toward the end of this past summer transfer window, Paris Saint-Germain made one last-ditch effort to bolster their backline.
L’Équipe’s Loïc Tanzi reported in August that PSG offered Tomás Araújo a contract worth €5 million per year, but they’re waiting to sell a center back before proceeding.
Similarly, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano noted that Chelsea are considering Araújo as a potential target if they part ways with a defender in the final days of the transfer window. While they haven’t made a formal bid yet, the club holds Araújo in high regard.
Both teams are interested in the 22-year-old defender, but Benfica has no intention of letting him go. Romano reported that the Portuguese giants want to keep Araújo at the club, especially since they’ve already sold enough players during the summer.
Chelsea returns for PSG summer target
CaughtOffside reports that Chelsea are considering bringing in two young defensive talents from Benfica, Antonio Silva and Araújo, to strengthen its backline.
Araújo is under contract with Benfica until 2028 and has made eight appearances across all competitions. As a result, the Portuguese side will have leverage in any transfer conversations with interested parties.
