Cole Palmer was the biggest talking point of Chelsea win today, he played a brilliant pass to set up the first and then score the second to put his team in front against Newcastle today.
It continues an exceptional start to the second season of an exceptional career, and there are potentially some more major chapters to come. There are huge fixtures on the horizon as the next month rolls on. And Palmer’s excited to get the chance to show what he can do against the best, as he told Chelsea TV after today’s game.
“Yeah you want to play in the biggest games, and they’re probably the biggest teams in the league so it’s exciting.
Palmer was also asked whether he had any “targets” for himself personally, and what the team might be aiming for.
“Nah I don’t. I don’t set any targets, I just try and play, and for the team hopefully we can just keep pushing and get as high up the table as we can.
Right, not giving up much there then Cole. But that’s his style. You can see the attacker speaking in the clip embedded here:

It would be silly for Palmer to have targets – he’s got nothing to prove, his numbers have been exceptional since the moment he started playing. His targets should be trophies, and he’s doing all he can for that. He just needs a team around him that matches his levels.
There’s no reason this squad can’t compete for all sorts of trophies if they get everyone delivering like Palmer, although that’s a tall order. There are a good few gears this team can still go through, and these hard games arriving soon will test them.
