One Chelsea journalist has noticed one of the best things Reece James did yesterday during Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Newcastle United.
The Blues played well and all in all deserved their win in this Premier League game due to creating a high volume of chances and getting shots on goal.
Sources: The ‘leaders’ impressing Enzo Maresca’s staff at Cobham, plus the inside details on Josh Acheampong’s contract situation!
Cole Palmer was simply fantastic and got a deserved man of the match award, and striker Nicolas Jackson was also playing some great stuff. Both scored goals, with Jackson getting the opener, and Palmer getting the winner.
But others certainly played their part in this game too, and it was Reece James who was another that stood out. The captain was ‘called out’ but Enzo Maresca in the week asking for more leadership qualities whilst wearing the armband, and it looks like James has responded already.
James more vocal
A Chelsea journalist who was at the game, Rahman Osman, noticed some improvements in James already.
He wrote in London World:
‘One of the best things Reece James did yesterday was how vocal he was on the pitch. Maresca had stressed the importance of an imposing captain, and even though he was not shouting at everything and everyone, he was keen on communicating effectively.
When Reece James made a goal-line headed clearance, he took the applause from Sanchez, Colwill, and Fofana but was quick to remind them that the game had not been won yet, and he needed them to remain focused.’
This is refreshing to read knowing that he took the public comments on board and has reacted positively to the comments made.
James played well in this game and really turned up when he needed to. He was also playing out of position in left back, which just goes to show how well he did overall.
