This past summer, Paris Saint-Germain set their sights on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Napoli’s standout player. Despite their strong interest in the Georgian winger, a transfer didn’t happen.
Napoli held firm, refusing to sell Kvaratskhelia. During the 2023-24 season, he appeared in 45 matches, netting 11 goals and providing nine assists. He was also instrumental in helping Napoli clinch the Serie A title in 2023.
However, even after his contributions to a championship-winning team, Kvaratskhelia hasn’t received a new contract. His current deal runs until 2027, and Napoli is eager to extend it.
Negotiations for an extension have hit a snag due to a significant wage gap between what the player’s camp is asking for and what Napoli is willing to offer. Kvaratskhelia’s representatives are seeking €8 million per season, while Napoli are only prepared to offer €6 million plus bonuses.
If this stalemate continues, other European clubs are likely to take notice, with at least one already starting to explore a potential move.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia wants more favorable contract extension terms
According to information from journalist Gianluca Di Marzio (h/t Le10Sport), Kvaratskhelia secretly wants to include a release clause of €80 million in his new contract.
However, Napoli is somewhat reluctant. So far, the Azzurri have been asking for around €100 million for the transfer of the Georgian international. This clause could therefore benefit PSG if Khvicha Kvaratskhelia manages to make himself heard.
TEAMtalk reported this month that Kvaratskhelia is keen to extend his contract, even though he’s encountering some financial hurdles. Fortunately, everyone involved remains hopeful that they can reach an agreement.
In the meantime, Liverpool, PSG, and Barcelona are keeping a close eye on his situation for a potential move. This news isn’t great for Manchester United, either, as Tuttomercatoweb shared that the Red Devils sent a scout to watch Kvaratskhelia play against Empoli this weekend.
