One former Chelsea player believes that it was wrong for head coach Enzo Maresca to ask one player play out of position last night.
Chelsea lost 2-0 against Newcastle United in a game that was pretty strange to watch. Chelsea bossed possession, but Newcastle always looked like winning it. Many Chelsea players were poor in this game though, and that was the key difference really.
EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea pick main candidate for new full back transfer pursuit!
Two players on the right hand side were asked to play out of position by Maresca. Axel Disasi has been filling in at right back quite a lot but the reality is he is just not good at all there.
But there was another player who was being asked to play out of position as well, and that is centre midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. The former Leicester City man who arrived from the same club as Maresca not long after he did in the summer just gone, was asked to play more as a wide right attacker, which was just odd really.
Cundy not happy with the decision
Former Chelsea player Jason Cundy feels that Dewsbury-Hall looked very uncomfortable playing out there.
“Dewsbury-Hall doesn’t look comfortable out on the right, we’ve hardly got him involved,” Cundy said via Chelsea’s official app (8:35pm, 30 October).
Cundy later added (9:00pm, 30 October): “Madueke is on for Dewsbury-Hall. We’ve now got a natural player on that right-hand side. This will give Chelsea a much more attacking threat from both flanks. What that also does now is gives us an out ball and an outlet because we’ve not really had that with Dewsbury-Hall. I’ve felt for him. It’s asking a central midfielder to play out wide right. It’s not his day job.”
I agree with Cundy here too – play players in their best position!
