Arsenal are interested in Real Madrid talent Arda Guler, seeing an opportunity to have the player follow in Martin Odegaard’s footsteps.
Spanish outlet Sport report that Arda Guler is on Arsenal’s radar ahead of the January transfer window, with the Gunners seeing him as a case similar to that of Martin Odegaard a few years ago.
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Guler from Madrid, and Odegaard’s success since making that same move is causing the youngster to consider his situation.
Guler is still hoping to make it in Madrid, but he understands that he’s not going to get the opportunities he wants there right now. Arsenal could offer him a way out, whether on loan or as a permanent transfer.
Madrid would presumably prefer a loan move, as Guler is still just 19 years old with a contract running until June 2029. It’s very possible that he’ll reach the right level to become a starter for his current club if they hold onto him for a bit longer.
As it stands, Carlo Ancelotti evidently doesn’t view Guler as a starter, with nine of his 12 appearances in 2024/25 coming as a substitute.
Of the three starts, the most recent was in mid-September against Espanyol, and the Turkish international was withdrawn just 55 minutes into that match.
Guler has at least found it easier to come by minutes with his national team, starting all six games between the September, October, and November breaks. In all, he’s played 221 more minutes for Turkey than Real Madrid this season.
Capable of playing as an attacking midfielder or on the wings, Arsenal could have more minutes on offer to Guler in the second half of the campaign. For now, any interest is presumably in the very early stages, with over a month still to go until the window even opens.
