After the latest Julen Lopetegui sack claim, I think there are two managers out there who’d be absolutely perfect to replace him at West Ham.
Julen Lopetegui is really feeling the heat at West Ham right now, and it has been claimed that he could be sacked if we lose to Newcastle and Arsenal.
That would surprise nobody in truth, after the Spaniard’s truly shocking start to life at the London Stadium.
We have absolutely no identity and the lack of energy on display has been painful to watch.
West Ham have been far too easy to play against this season, and things have to change quickly.
As the talk about Lopetegui’s future continues to feature prominently in the press, it’s looking more and more likely that he will get the sack.
And the perfect two candidates are sitting out there waiting for us.
Julen Lopetegui claim means 2 men would jump at West Ham job
I’m pretty sure Lopetegui won’t be here by Christmas, whether we lose to Newcastle and Arsenal or not.
We all know that David Sullivan has a preference of hiring free agent managers though, so if Lopetegui is moved on, the Hammers co-owner will undoubtedly be looking in that market.
And there are two managers who stand out like a sore thumb as far as I’m concerned.
In my opinion, Edin Terzic and Graham Potter are the only two realistic replacements for Lopetegui right now.
Both are free agents, and either of them would undoubtedly be a big upgrade on Lopetegui.
Potter has been out of work for 19 months now, and his footballing philosophy would suit West Ham to a tee.
Meanwhile, Terzic is familiar with the club, having worked as Slaven Bilic’s number two during the Croatian’s stint in charge of the Hammers.
Edin Terzic or Graham Potter perfect for West Ham
Terzic, 42, led Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final last season, and lost out on the Bundesliga title purely because of an inferior goal difference to Bayern Munich in the 2022/23 season.
He has already been heavily linked with a move to East London, and I’m convinced he would get a tune out of our players.
He is an intense coach who is sound defensively, and has his teams set up in a very well-organised manner – something we desperately need.
Meanwhile, Potter is another man who’s been on our list for quite some time now, and the 49-year-old was the latest name to be linked with replacing Lopetegui.
He’s well-renowned for his possession based approach to the game, and is extremely versatile, often using multiple different systems during games.
If given a chance at West Ham, and I’m talking a minimum of 18 months, I’m sure he would turn us around.
One thing’s for sure, Julen Lopetegui deserves the sack, and if he is moved on, bringing in the correct replacement will be key for West Ham.
Terzic or Potter would be perfect, and I’m convinced that they’d both snap Sullivan’s hand off it offered the job.
