West Ham United have seemingly set their stall out with regards to Lucas Paqueta.
Lucas Paqueta has endured a nightmare last 15 months or so at West Ham, with his off-field problems seriously affecting his performances for us.
It has already been claimed that the Hammers are prepared to sell Paqueta, after his recent struggles.
The 27-year-old Hammers star has been hit with four separate charges pertaining to potential betting breaches, and he apparently faces a lifetime ban if found guilty.
If that actually happens, it would obviously be a disaster for him and West Ham.
So what do the Hammers do? It seems like David Sullivan has now taken a firm stance regarding the South American.
Lucas Paqueta claim emerges as West Ham make stance clear
The 27-year-old has been an absolute shadow of his former self this season.
It’s little wonder as to why really, with so much going on behind the scenes for him.
According to Spanish publication Fichajes, West Ham are prepared to sell Paqueta for just £25 million.
That would represent a £26 million loss on the £51 million that we paid Lyon for the Brazilian in the summer of 2022 (The Times).
Whilst that is a huge amount of money to lose out on, I actually think the Hammers would be wise to cut their losses.
If he is found guilty of the charges levelled against him, and receives a lifetime ban, he will be worth nothing to West Ham.
So selling him for £25 million either in January or the summer could actually be a real result for the East London outfit.
The question is, will there be any clubs prepared to take the risk of signing him, without knowing whether he’ll face a ban or not?
I highly doubt it.
The best West Ham can hope for in my opinion, is a club taking Lucas Paqueta on loan with an option to buy him for £25 million in the summer, whilst paying his wages in full.
