Two of Europe’s biggest clubs lock horns tonight in a huge Champions League showdown in Germany. The Allianz Arena hosts a repeat of the 2019/20 final as Bayern Munich take on Paris Saint-Germain, with both sides in need of a victory to boost their hopes of automatic qualification for the last 16.
Bayern are sitting pretty with a six-point lead back at the summit of the Bundesliga and hit nine goals past Dinamo Zagreb to begin their latest European campaign, though have since lost to Aston Villa and were thumped by Barcelona last month. They later edged past Benfica to climb up to 16th in the new league phase standings, though only the top eight finishers will avoid a two-legged knockout play-off tie in the New Year.
PSG have the same advantage at the top of Ligue 1, yet their Champions League campaign thus far has been a massive disappointment, winning only one of their opening four matches to slump down to 25th in the table – a position which, if it doesn’t improve, would see them eliminated from Europe altogether in a total disaster for the French giants.
