Simon Jordan has boldly claimed Chelsea will challenge Liverpool for the title this season and believes they are becoming a significant side.
The Blues have made a better start than many expected under Enzo Maresca and following their win against Leicester on Saturday they remain third in the Premier League.
The Italian hasn’t been phased by the big step up and currently has Chelsea on course to secure a top four finish and qualify for the Champions League.
Jordan makes bold Chelsea claim
At this stage of the season the league is finely poised and it appears we could be in store for one of the most competitive campaigns in recent times.
Just five points cover Manchester City in second and Newcastle in tenth, with it very much feeling like there’s an opportunity for a team to do something unexpected.
Chelsea are certainly exceeding people’s expectations at this point of the season and Maresca himself has admitted they are ahead of his expectations.
The Blues currently find themselves nine points off Liverpool who lead the way, but people have started to talk about whether they can challenge for the title.
It feels at least one season too early for this group, but Jordan has boldly claimed Chelsea will challenge the Reds for the title.
“I think the top four is established,” he told talkSPORT.
“I’ve got a feeling it will be Arsenal and Man City fighting for third and fourth, and Chelsea and Liverpool fighting for the league. I think Chelsea are becoming a significant side.”
It’s certainly a bold claim and the way the season is going with how tight things are there’s an opportunity for a team to do something unexpected, but the reality of the Blues challenging this season doesn’t seem likely.
If we are to mount a genuine title challenge then the record in the big games has to significantly improve, with Maresca admitting after the Arsenal game they aren’t far off winning one of these matches.
The reality is Chelsea just need to focus on themselves and take things one game at a time and see where it leads them.
