Pompey, who have not made the brightest of starts on their return to the Championship, were forced to postpone the Championship match after the lights went out minutes before kick-off in their 21,000-seater stadium.
The game, which was due to start at 7.45pm, marks Portsmouth’s second postponement in a row after Saturday’s clash against Blackburn was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
Fans were left to sit in darkness for almost an hour until an announcement was made by the Championship club, who confirmed the match will be rescheduled.
‘Tonight’s match against Millwall has been postponed for safety reasons due circumstances beyond the club’s control. We will update fans further in due course,’ Portsmouth posted on social media at 8.41pm.
Gosport Borough, who are a non-league club local to Portsmouth, also had their match postponed on Wednesday evening due to a floodlights issue.
