NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – In this edition of FFF: Texas Longhorns try to avoid a QB controversy, Paris Saint-Germain running into problems in the Champions League, and Blue Oak BBQ delivers with their restaurant and catering.
FOOTBALL
The Texas Longhorns were up, 24-7, at halftime against Kentucky at home this past weekend. There was a small chance that the Wildcats could come back.
Well, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers ankle injury did make it interesting in the second half. He was walking with a limp and dealing with an ankle injury.
So the right move would probably be to sit him. Don’t risk future injury with Texas A&M on the docket this weekend.
But Steve Sarkisian is trying to avoid a QB controversy. A healthy, mobile Arch Manning would’ve probably lit up Kentucky, and fired up the fans on the back end of the season.
Sark stuck with Ewers and it resulted in a lost fumble for a touchdown to make things closer, 24-14. They went to the run game in the fourth quarter and ran out the clock to win, 31-14.
Now Ewers has a lingering injury on Aggie week, when they could’ve just used Manning instead.
I think it made no sense, but hey I’m not the coach of the Longhorns.
FÚTBOL
Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, and Neymar are no longer on the roster at Paris Saint-Germain. With their lackluster performance in the Champions League, you can tell the lineup is different. Ousmane Dembélé and Bradley Barcola are no Mbappé and Messi.
PSG is 1-1-3 in group play so far. They’ve suffered losses to Bayern Munich, Atlético Madrid, and Arsenal.
They’re currently 25th in the Champions League standings with three matches to go in the group phase. The top-24 advance to the next round.
With RB Salzburg, Manchester City, and Stuttgart still left on the schedule, it’ll be interesting to monitor Luis Enrique’s squad going forward.
FOOD
There’s no doubt about it, Blue Oak BBQ is a well-oiled machine.
Every meal I have there is flawless. Great food, service, and atmosphere. With outdoor seating, it’s also a must spot to eat with the temps dropping.
They also produce a very efficient catering business. The website is easy to navigate, pick your foods, sides, and schedule a pickup time at the commissary not too far from their restaurant.
You might ask, how do you know it’s better than some of the other BBQ spots that have a restaurant and do catering. Well, I got to see it first-hand.
Pinkerton’s is a Houston institution for BBQ. I got the opportunity to check it out on Wednesday.
I wanted to try their prime brisket and beef ribs, but I couldn’t on this day. They overextended themselves on catering orders and ran out of both, and they were only open for two hours at this point. Chicken and turkey were also missing from the menu at 1 p.m.
Their catering order line ran right next to the dine-in line. Orders were given out right in the middle of the restaurant. Not in another area of the restaurant. It was a not a smooth operation.
With little options, I went with pork ribs and sausage. Yeah it was good, but there’s other things I wanted to try. When I left at 2 p.m., ribs were also off the menu.
So yes, treasure Blue Oak in New Orleans, because they know how to do it right.
