During Bayern Munich’s disastrous managerial search at the end of the 2023/2024 season, there were plenty of rumors that the supervisory board at Bayern Munich were interfering with the process, in particular rumors that Hoeneß rejected current FC Barcelona coach Hansi Flick and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge got in the way of a return of current Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann. Of course, those two were the previous power duo at Bayern before recently stepping back. What if the duo were unable to step back fully and would continually interfere with the work of the newer employees?
Uli Hoeness, however, claims he is not interfering with the work of board member for sport Max Eberl and sporting director Christoph Freund’s work…much: “Only when the opportunity arises. If they have a question, they can always contact me. My door is always open. But they have to do their job. People always say that I decide everything. But that’s nonsense. You only get good employees if you let them work.”
It does seem more and more as if Eberl and Freund are starting to leave their imprint on the team. Regardless of how one feels about the new duo, it is likely a good thing that there are not too many cooks in the kitchen anymore.
