Currently rocked by an unprecedented barren run of form, Man City have been threatening to stop Tottenham in their tracks off the pitch in recent weeks with their interest in bringing Pedro Porro back to the Etihad.
Now, they have identified another Tottenham defender to bolster their ranks.
Man City add Cristian Romero to transfer wishlist
As reported by TBR Football, Man City have identified Tottenham centre-back Cristian Romero as a potential target, with the Argentine set to begin talks with the North London club over a new contract.
The 26-year-old has established himself as one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe, with Bayern Munich and Inter Milan also keeping tabs on him.
Having been out of action since the middle of last month, Romero is in line for a return to the pitch in the midweek as Spurs face Bournemouth in the Premier League.
Romero currently has at Spurs a £165k-per-week contract running until June 2027. The Lilywhites put a £150m price tag on him earlier in the season as the Real Madrid interest emerged.
The Argentine could be tempted…
Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou have demonstrated consistency in their inability to string together positive results enough to threaten upsetting any apple carts. After missing out on Champions League qualification last season, they continue stumbling every few steps this season as well.
This season, a fifth-place finish in the Premier League could deliver Champions League football given how the UEFA coefficient turns out come May, but even then Spurs under Postecoglou are likely to remain a yo-yo side, at best capable of just about making the European topflight every now and then but never a sure shot for it.
With the likes of City, Bayern, Inter, or Real Madrid, Romero will stand to be in the Champions League more often than not. In his absence from the pitch in recent weeks, his stock at the club has only gone up. It’s only a matter of time before he pushes for a move up the footballing ladder.
