In a move that continues his journey in European football, former Arsenal defender Pablo Marí has signed for AC Fiorentina, marking the latest chapter in the Spanish centre-back’s career.
The 31-year-old, who spent two seasons with AC Monza after leaving Arsenal, joins the Serie A side in a deal worth €1.8 million, signing a contract that will keep him in Florence until 2026.
Marí’s departure from Monza comes after 87 appearances and one goal for the Italian club, where he became a key figure in their backline.
The defender’s time at Monza was marked by a mix of professional success and personal adversity. In October 2022, Marí was the victim of a stabbing attack while shopping in a supermarket with his wife and son.
The incident, which left him requiring surgery, shocked the football world. Despite the trauma, Marí made a remarkable recovery, returning to action in January 2023 and playing a pivotal role in Monza’s mid-table finish in Serie A.
Reflecting on the attack, Adriano Galliani, Monza’s CEO, recounted the harrowing details to Sky Italia: “He had his son in a trolley and his wife next to him. He didn’t notice anything. He then felt something painful in his back, which was the criminal’s knife. Unfortunately, he also saw the criminal stab someone in the throat. He saw everything that happened, and it was deeply disturbing.”
Despite the ordeal, Marí’s determination to return to the pitch was a testament to his character and professionalism.

Marí’s career has been one of steady progression, with his time at Arsenal serving as a significant milestone. Signed by the Gunners in 2020, initially on loan from Flamengo, he made 22 appearances for the club and was part of the squad that won the FA Cup and Community Shield.
Upon his permanent departure to Monza in 2023, he penned an emotional farewell message to Arsenal fans, writing, “It has been an immense honor to wear the Arsenal jersey and win two titles with this club. The Gunners will always have a place in my heart!”
Now, as he embarks on a new challenge with Fiorentina, Marí brings with him a wealth of experience and a proven track record in Serie A.
His composure on the ball, aerial ability, and leadership qualities make him a valuable addition to Raffaele Palladino‘s side. Palladino left Monza in the summer to manage La Viola.
