Just when you thought the transfer window couldn’t get any more complicated, familiar foes Aston Villa have stood up and said, “Hold my beer.”
It seems long-time Hammers target Jhon Duran could hold the key to whether the club signs Evan Ferguson. Confused? You should be.
Because it now transpires that Duran is actually for sale and, as luck would have it, his price is precisely what West Ham bid—£57m. That is the fee being quoted to Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr.
Duran has reportedly agreed personal terms with Al Nassr. However, the Saudi Pro League side are not quite as keen and may prefer Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface instead.
If Boniface moves to the Middle East, Leverkusen would replace him with Brighton’s Evan Ferguson, thus scuppering the deal for the Irish forward to join West Ham.
Therefore—if I’ve read this situation correctly—if the Hammers want to sign Ferguson, we’ll be cheerleading for someone else to sign the striker we originally wanted in the first place.
