West Ham United head coach Graham Potter has to ensure that he brings a top-class striker to the London Stadium before the transfer window closes.
Graham Potter has a lot of work to do at the London Stadium before Monday’s January transfer window deadline day
The West Ham squad is decimated by injuries to key players right now, namely Michail Antonio, Niclas Fullkrug and Jean-Clair Todibo.
However, following the recent arrival of recruitment guru Kyle Macaulay, the Hammers are expected to get down to business in the transfer market.
Potter needs to make at least two top-class signings before the January window slams shut.
The Hammers desperately need to sign a proven striker, and a powerful box-to-box midfielder.
And now West Ham may well be closing in on getting one of those signings done and dusted.
Graham Potter closes on first West Ham signing
The Hammers head coach seems to be on the cusp of bringing a striker to the London Stadium…finally.
And that’s great news for everyone involved with the club.
It’s just bizarre that it has taken us this long to address what has been a clear problem position for us.
The Irish Independent (print edition January 29th, back page) claim that the Hammers are closing in on a deal to sign Evan Ferguson on loan from Brighton.
Whatever people may say about the 20-year-old, he has proven that he’s good enough to succeed in the Premier League.
Sure, he has experienced real problems in front of goal for Brighton over the past 12 months.

But he proved during the 2022/23 season just how good he can be, when he took the Premier League by storm when leading the line for the Seagulls at just 18, under the guidance of Graham Potter nonetheless.
Ferguson is incredibly strong, both in the air and on the ground.
The Republic of Ireland international would be able to act a real focal point for the Hammers’ attacking play.
If Graham Potter is able to bring Evan Ferguson to West Ham on loan before the January transfer window slams shut, I think it will be a good deal for us.
And I’m convinced that the 20-year-old will succeed at the London Stadium.
