Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has come under a lot of fire following recent poor results
Following the embarrassing 2-1 defeat to relegation-threatened Leicester City, the position of Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur has come under further scrutiny.
Tottenham remained 15th in the Premier League after the defeat on Sunday, and the club are edging closer to a relegation battle with every passing week right now—Ange Postecoglou is currently unable to stop the rut. The Australian tactician has not won any of his last seven games in the top-flight, including just one in his last 11, and that came against basement side Southampton in mid-December.
As a result, the pressure on Postecoglou has only intensified with the Lilywhites on course for their worst-ever Premier League finish. That being said, the hierarchy are sticking by the 59-year-old for now. He is still being backed by chairman Daniel Levy, who needs to take a significant portion of the blame for the mess Tottenham are in at the moment.
However, if results don’t improve in the next few games and Levy decides to pull the trigger on Big Ange, there are already a few names of candidates floating to replace him in North London. While other managers are being touted for the Spurs role, GIVEMESPORT journalist Dean Jones claims one familiar name could come back into the fold in the form of Ryan Mason.
Ryan Mason knows the club in and out and has already been in the dugout twice. Currently an assistant manager to Big Ange, Dean Jones states that while the 33-year-old may not be the most exciting appointment to take over from the Greek-Australian tactician, his respect within the Tottenham dressing room is enough of a reason to take the temporary charge of the club once again.
“This might not seem sexy, but if Postecoglou does depart Tottenham, assistant Ryan Mason is considered a strong candidate to take over in the interim. Mason enjoys respect within the Spurs dressing room and has previously stepped in as caretaker manager,” Jones exclusively wrote for GIVEMESPORT.
“His familiarity with the squad and tactical insight could make him a stabilising presence during a transitional period. This will become more likely if they have to wait for a top choice.”

After Jose Mourinho was sacked back in 2021, Mason was handed the temporary keys and he did a decent enough job—winning four of seven games. He became the interim manager again when the club parted ways with Antonio Conte in 2023, winning two of his six games in charge.

With Tottenham only eight points above the relegation zone, it would be hard for Levy not to consider sacking Big Ange. However, Levy and Co. are understanding of the veteran tactician’s situation as he navigates through a series of injuries that have seen several key players, including Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Rodrigo Bentancur, Dominic Solanke, Richarlison and Guglielmo Vicario, be sidelined.

Moreover, the fact that the Lilywhites are still active in all three cup competitions they are participating in this season has also allowed the hierarchy to consider Big Ange’s position carefully.
