West Ham United have rejected the chance to sign Brentford forward Yoane Wissa, Claret & Hugh can exclusively reveal.
The rapid Bees frontman has shown little inclination to sign a new deal with the West Londoners, and with 15 months remaining on his contract, his value is dwindling.
The French-born Congo international will be 29 this summer and is understood to be viewing his next contract as a final chance to ‘cash in’.
As a result, Wissa was offered to a number of clubs with a view to a transfer at the end of this season. It is our understanding that both Tottenham and West Ham rejected the chance to sign the jet-heeled forward, believing his £25-30m price tag was too high for an ageing player.
It is understood that Graham Potter personally turned down the opportunity to sign the player, who has 15 goals to his name in all competitions this season. Presumably, the West Ham manager would rather concentrate on buying younger players and reducing the average age of the Hammers squad.
