Tottenham heads into the international break with a heavy heart after the excruciating 2-0 loss at Fulham at Craven Cottage – one of their poorest performances. The team is not just being poor – they are poor, and have now dropped to 14th in the table. Given their current state, former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp was quick to share his thoughts on the club’s terrible form.
Harry Redknapp, the legendary coach, once led Tottenham to a return to the Champions League in the 2009/10 season while playing interesting football to earn the Premier League Manager of the Season award. His self-assurance remains intact, as he recently stated that if he was in charge of Spurs instead of Ange Postecoglou, winning the Europa League would be easy. Additionally, it appears that Redknapp has no trust in the current Tottenham squad.
Harry Redknapp ranks Aaron Lennon above Brennan Johnson
In nearly two years at Tottenham, Brennan Johnson has played 73 matches but has only managed 32 goal contributions— very underwhelming numbers for a winger. At the start of the season, the Welsh international appeared to be on track for a successful campaign, but his progress stalled midway through.
Shifting focus from Johnson’s underwhelming season, Harry Redknapp recently spoke to WeAreTottenhamTV, where he was asked to compare the best Tottenham XI he managed with the current squad. Notably, he didn’t pick a single player from Ange Postecoglou’s side, except for briefly selecting Cristian Romero over Michael Dawson before reconsidering.
One of Redknapp’s most intriguing decisions was choosing Aaron Lennon over Brennan Johnson.
That says a lot, considering Spurs signed Aaron Lennon from Leeds for just £1m in June 2005, while Brennan Johnson cost them £47m. Even with inflation, that £1m transfer would only amount to £5.4m today—an absolute bargain in any era.
Shifting focus, football has evolved tactically over the years, with high-scoring games becoming more frequent. However, racking up 106 goal contributions during the physically demanding Premier League era highlights Lennon’s impact. While the Welsh international might be more efficient in certain areas, he doesn’t come close to the Chapeltown-born winger in terms of influence.

One could argue that Johnson is more efficient than Lennon, but few would dispute that Tottenham’s No.22 lacks the excitement the £1m signing from Leeds brought across his 364 electrifying appearances.
With the way Tottenham are playing now, even Ange Postecoglou’s basic and predictable tactics are being exposed. If things don’t change, securing a top-five finish next season will be a tough challenge for Spurs.
