The former Toffees striker has been linked with a takeover at the National League side.
Ex-Everton striker Victor Anichebe has been linked with a surprise takeover at National League outfit Gateshead FC. The former Toffee, who came through the youth ranks at Goodison Park, before making his debut as a 15-year-old, would make 168 appearances for the Blues, scoring 26 times in all competitions.
Anichebe would leave Goodison in September 2013 to join West Bromwich Albion and spent three years at the Midlands club before joining Sunderland in 2016. Our sister title Chronicle Live, contacted Gateshead FC as speculation arose online regarding a potential takeover at the Heed – with Anichebe spotted at the International Stadium on a number of occasions and linked with a consortium planning said takeover.
It comes just a few days after Yeovil Town manager, Mark Cooper, alleged someone who did not yet own the Tynesiders had agreed a deal to sign Yeovil player Frank Nouble for Gateshead. That claim was made during his recent pre-match press conference.

Cooper said: “Frank wanted to go to Gateshead. Somebody from Gateshead approached him – that we’ve now found out – has no influence or doesn’t own the football club.
“I think this person did a deal with Frank’s agent, which obviously unsettled Frank, which it would do because he had a good deal going to Gateshead. And then, it went quiet, we then found out that there was no deal.”
Cooper added: “The person doing the deal with Frank’s agent and Frank had no jurisdiction to do the deal, because as far as I’m aware he doesn’t yet own Gateshead. Really disappointing from Gateshead’s side of it and feel sorry for Frank really, but he wanted to go.
“He made it clear he wanted to go and play for Gateshead. We granted that wish, but it’s fell through so we’ll wait to see what happens.”
Chronicle Live contacted the club regarding Cooper’s comments and if there was a possible takeover in the works, but were told: “No comment.” They were also given a response of “no comment” when asked if Anichebe was involved in potential takeover talks after being spotted at the International Stadium for the 3-1 defeat to Braintree Town on Tuesday night.
The National League have also been approached for a comment.
