As covered on Claret and Hugh last week, Niclas Fullkrug returned to Germany last week to re-acquaint himself with his former international team mates ahead of their UEFA Nations League tie against Italy. West Ham’s troubled striker, who has been absent for most of the season since his August transfer, found time to visit one of his former clubs Werder Bremen for a testimonial and talk to Sky TV in Germany about his prognosis.
MSN reprised his interview in their article:”Germany’s Fullkrug on a good path towards West Ham comeback’ with some very welcome confirmation that the injury- troubled Hammer is closing in on a return.
“I am on a good path” the German told Sky. I am back in team training. I am being led slowly, it was a lengthy injury”.
By keeping his contact current with the German nationals side Fullkrug has shown he still holds ambitions to make a return to international duties. For which his West Ham form this spring will be crucial- a year and a bit before the summer World Cup finals, both his club and his nation will welcome a return to both the team sheet and the goal scoring reports.
Whether his future as a Hammer extends beyond this summer is probably still open for he and Potter to discuss. It can only be beneficial for the player, West Ham and Germany that he is about to grace the playing fields of East London once again.
