Aston Villa show interest in signing struggling Spurs midfield maestro
Constantly pushing for European spots under Unai Emery, Aston Villa have looked quite a strong unit under the Spanish coach ever since he moved to the Midlands from Villarreal in October of 2022. The Villans and Tottenham have seen themselves often fight for the final UCL spot or a place in the Europa League for the last few seasons. It seems like they have shown interest in getting a midfielder to Villa Park from North London.
Struggling midfielder Yves Bissouma is on the Aston Villa radar and Tottenham might be incurious to the situation. Ever since making his move from Brighton to the Lilywhites, the player has had a mixed-bag sort of form. It is always hit or miss with him, and the lack of consistency, in either being good or bad, has resulted in him being frustrating to watch for a great section of the fans.
That is as per Give Me Sport. We started off flying under Ange Postecoglou, playing some genuinely exciting football, but then the wheels started falling off, injuries piled up, and now we’re limping towards the finish line, hoping to scrape a European spot. A revamp is clearly needed in the summer, and that means some players will have to go. But should Bissouma be one of them?
Bissouma hasn’t exactly set the world alight since his £25m move from Brighton. One minute he looks like a midfield general, effortlessly breaking up play and dictating tempo; the next, he’s either suspended, injured, or just completely off it. Inconsistent would be putting it kindly.
Keep or Sell?
But here’s the thing—on his day, he’s class. The guy is still one of the best ball-winners in the league when he’s switched on, and with the business end of the season approaching, there’s an outside chance he could still have a part to play. Postecoglou doesn’t seem like the type to just give up on players, and at 28, Bissouma is in his prime years. There remains a case to be made that, in a more settled midfield alongside a fit-again Rodrigo Bentancur, he could yet justify his place in the squad for next season before the fanbase quits on him.
Also, selling to Villa might be a bit tricky. Emery has built a side that’s a genuine threat to Spurs’ European ambitions. Selling them a potentially revitalised Bissouma could come back to haunt us in a season or two. But if a decent bid comes in and Ange wants to reshape his squad, can we really say no?

Tricky one, this. Maybe keeping him for one more season isn’t the worst idea. But if Villa flash the cash, every player has his price and Biss is no different.
