Nottingham Forest are eyeing a club-record move for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha this summer if they qualify for the Champions League, according to a report.
Mail Sport exclusively revealed in January that the Brazilian was at the top of Forest’s winter shopping list but a deal never materalised and the forward eventually penned a new contract at Molineux which includes a £62million release clause.
As a result, Cunha, who has scored 13 goals in 26 Premier League matches this term, is expected to leave the West Midlands this summer and, according to talkSPORT, Forest are plotting a sensational move.
Last summer’s acquisition of Elliot Anderson set a new mark for transfers at the City Ground but the deal for Cunha would far exceed the £35million Forrest spent on the midfielder.
With Forest looking increasingly like to qualify for the Champions League next season, the competitions’ associates riches could allow for a big summer of spending. Nuno Espirito Santo‘s has led his troops to the dizzying heights of third place in the top flight – seven points clear of Newcastle in sixth.
England‘s top five clubs set to qualify for next season’s Champions League in the current UEFA co-efficient rankings.

The 25-year-old is currently observing a four-match ban after he was dismissed for violent contact in Wolves’ FA Cup defeat by Bournemouth earlier this month. He had scored a stunning equaliser to send the last-16 tie to extra time, but then got involved in an altercation with Cherries full back Milos Kerkez.
Cunha saw red after launching a shocking attack that saw him punch, kick and headbutt Kerkez.
He was charged by the FA, and after reviewing the incident an independent commission has announced Cunha has been given a four-match suspension – one more game than he was initially slated to serve.
He apologised for his moment of madness on Instagram later that evening as he wrote: ‘In the end, another game where you guys did your best. I couldn’t lose my head at the end. Sorry.’
Cunha has already missed two matches since the Bournemouth loss, with Wolves drawing 1-1 at home to Everton before winning 2-1 at Southampton.
He will sit out Wolves’ games against West Ham and Ipswich after the international break, but will be available when the Midlands club host Tottenham on April 13.
