In a weekend of goals that saw West Ham’s Evan Ferguson find the net, another UEFA Nations League tie provided ample evidence of one other Hammers transfer target’s credentials. Georgia versus Armenia may not seem the most eye catching of fixtures but in the second leg of the game Georgia hit the Armenians for a six goal pasting, with one West Ham summer target looking in particularly fine form.
Lyon’s Georges Mikautadze netted twice for his national side in the first half of their second leg game last night. The forward has been linked with a West Ham summer move, with caughtoffside.com suggesting last week that:
“West Ham [are] determined to sign 18-G/A forward, could offer £29.5m in summer”, commenting that “The 24-year-old striker has been exceptional for the French outfit since joining the club and he has 12 goals and six assists to his name this season.”
His fine club form has now continued into International games with a brace and an assist inside the first thirty five minutes, albeit against modest opposition. He can only have helped raise his own profile a couple of months before the serious business of the summer transfer window gets going.
Only time will tell whether he is at the top of a Hammers’ summer shopping list – he’d certainly be a more realistic summer target than the Irons’ pretty doomed attempts to sign Jonathan David, with half the cream of European football chasing after him.
