AFC Bournemouth clinched the Women’s National League Division One South West title at Dean Court on Sunday and with it, promotion to the third tier of women’s football.
The game was played out in front of a record crowd of over 7,000 and Bristol Rovers attempted to become party poopers and started the game better, hitting the post early on to give the Cherries a shock.
But once Jenna Markham pounced on an under-hit headed pass back, to bravely poke the ball beyond the visiting ‘keeper to open the scoring, the Cherries grew more and more into the game.
A disallowed goal for offside failed to dampen the spirits as moments later Katie James scored the second goal of the game to put the result beyond doubt.
AFC Bournemouth have now won 18 games out of 18 to maintain their unbeaten run which now lasts over 2 years.
To the delight of the enthusiastic crowd, AFC Bournemouth lifted the trophy as red and black streamers and fireballs filled the air.
