West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek could be at the centre of a two-way transfer tussle this summer.
As Claret & Hugh previously reported, there is genuine Premier League interest in the Czech midfielder, and few will be surprised to learn that Everton are leading the chase.
Toffees boss David Moyes, who brought Soucek to the London Stadium during his time in charge of West Ham, is believed to be keen on a reunion with the player.
However, a surprise contender has emerged in the form of Leeds United, who reportedly view Soucek as a guaranteed source of goals—and potentially the difference between Premier League survival and relegation.
Soucek remains one of the lower-paid senior players at West Ham, and Claret & Hugh understand that any move would see his wages comfortably topped by around £30k per week.
The 30-year-old is under contract for a little over two more seasons and has no desire to leave. He is not agitating for a move, and as we’ve previously reported, it has long been Soucek’s ambition to stay in East London—hopefully one day wearing the captain’s armband.
The interest will certainly give West ham manager Graham Potter food for thought considering he is currently looking for fast technical players. Soucek may not be either but his goal scoring record is impressive and they tend to be important goals too. He might not be everyone’s cup of tea or indeed easy on the eye, but as an effective and truly committed midfielder he’s hard to beat without spending mega money.
