Architect Dan Meis has expressed his hope for the inaugural league game at the new Everton Stadium after attending a match at the Blues’ future home for the first time
Dan Meis, the architect who designed the new Everton Stadium, has expressed his hope for the inaugural league game at the Blues’ future home after he saw fans attend a match at Bramley-Moore Dock for the first time on Sunday. Colorado-born Meis did not attend the historic first fixture between Everton’s Under-18s and their Wigan Athletic counterparts last month.
But he flew over for the second test event as the Blues’ Under-21s side defeated Bolton Wanderers B 1-0 before the action came to an early finish on 65 minutes so a planned evacuation drill of the 52,888 capacity venue could be carried out.
Meis, who first visited the site on the Mersey waterfront as part of an Everton delegation on October 14, 2016, took to social media to share his thoughts after he joined 25,000 spectators for the action.

Writing on his Instagram account, he said: “It has been a long ten years but so great to finally see the faces of Everton fans inside the building today! It was a bonus to spend a few minutes talking stadium design with the legend Wayne Rooney.
“Last pic posted by @tomjenkns shows how incredibly steep the stands are. Can’t wait to hear the roar of the first League match!”
Speaking exclusively to the ECHO during a previous visit in 2023, Meis commented on the feel of the new stadium as he said: “The intimacy is very satisfying because it was really a driver for us. I feel that the intimacy part of the new stadium will compare to Goodison.
“I would hope to never sound arrogant and capturing the history and magic of a place like Goodison would be quite an achievement.
“I’ve sat at Goodison with a column in front of me and thought it was still one of the greatest football experiences on the planet.”
