Sergio Reguilon’s career at Tottenham Hotspur appears set to end in the summer
Tottenham Hotspur are having a season to forget. The club is sitting 15th in the Premier League and the league campaign is already a write-off for many Spurs fans. However, not all is doom and gloom as they are still competing in the Europa League after reaching the quarter-finals of the competition this month.
The Lilywhites have been dealt with numerous injuries this season and this has led to manager Ange Postecoglou relying on squad players and backup options. However, some players have still not got the game time they would have expected after so many injury blows in the squad. One of those players who has barely played is left-back Sergio Reguilon. The 28-year-old has not been relied upon by Ange at all, even though the defence has been depleted this season.
As per Sofascore, the Spain international has played just 121 minutes of Premier League football this season. It can even be said that the fans were not expecting the ex-Sevilla player to play a single minute for the club this season, but circumstances have led Ange to name Reguilon in the matchday squad.
Sergio Reguilon heading for the exit at Tottenham
Sergio Reguilon joined Tottenham Hotspur from Real Madrid in 2020 and was deemed to be an exciting signing. The Spain international has an impressive first campaign with the club as well under then-manager Jose Mourinho. However, things have gone downhill since then and Reguilon has just failed to make the left-back position his own.
According to the Sunday Mirror newspaper via Football.london, Sergio Reguilon is willing to head back to Spain in the summer on a free transfer. The 28-year-old only has three months remaining on his Spurs contract and it is being reported that Sevilla and Real Sociedad are taking an interest in signing the Tottenham outcast. The report also claims that Italian and Saudi clubs are also interested in signing the left-back.
It was also reported last summer by Fabrizio Romano that Ange Postecoglou was willing to offload Reguilon before the season started. However, with only a year left in his contract at that time, the Lilywhites failed to find a suitor and were stuck with the defender for the season.
Sergio Reguilon’s Tottenham Hotspur career will always be touted as a failure. The 28-year-old was an exciting prospect in his Real Madrid days and in an ideal world, could have made the left-back position his own at N17 for years to come. But it just hasn’t worked out for the player and his career seems to be at a standstill.

A move to Spain might just reignite his career and get him back to his best. La Liga also seems to be an ideal league for Reguilon as it matches his style of play and is a much slower league so it will be easier for the defender to settle down and get his game rhythm back.
