Show of hands: Who else here watched Notts County draw 0-0 against Crewe Alexandria on Saturday? Just fitzie?
While the international break gave us all a brief respite from Tottenham Hotspur, there was still plenty of action in the lower levels of the English football pyramid. And you know how much we love the pyramid.
One day all these teams will play an equal number of games and make your hoddler-in-chief’s life signifcantly easier. Today’s not that day, so to hell with the scheduling.
So let’s take a quick look around the other leagues in England:
League One:
The most interesting playoff race thickens with Wrexham in the second automatic spot, but Wycombe still have a game in hand.
I think Wycombe have a tougher run-in with games against Stockport, Leyton Orient and Huddersfield. But hey you never know.
Top six:
1. Birmingham (83 Pts, +35 GD, 36 MP)
2. Wrexham (74 Pts, +22 GD, 38 MP)
3. Wycombe (71 Points, +28 GD, 37 MP)
4. Charlton (66 Pts, +14 GD, 38 MP)
5. Stockport (65 Pts, +18 GD, 38 MP)
6. Huddersfield (61 Pts, +18 GD, 37 MP)
Bottom four:
21. Burton (36 Pts, -15 GD, 37 MP)
22. Crawley Town (33 Pts, -31 GD, 38 MP)
23. Cambridge Utd (30 Pts, -26 GD, 38 MP)
24. Shrewsbury (28 Pts, -28 GD, 37 MP)
League Two:
For those of you keeping track at home, Notts County’s bid to reach the automatics took a big hit after dropping two points against Crewe Alexandria. Other than that, very little’s changed in the picture since we last checked. Poor Morecambe look like they’re gonna drop.
Top four:
1. Walsall (70 Pts, +24 GD, 38 MP)
2. Bradford City (69 Pts, +20 GD, 38 MP)
3. AFC Wimbledon (64 Pts, +23 GD, 38 MP)
4. Port Vale (64 Pts, +11 GD, 37 MP)
5. Doncaster (63 Pts, +10 GD, 37 MP)
6. Notts County (62 Pts, +17 GD, 38 MP)
7. Grimsby Town (59 Pts, -2 GD, 38 MP)
Bottom two:
23. Morecambe (30 Pts, -24 GD, 38 MP)
24. Carlisle (30 Pts, -26 GD, 37 MP)
National League:
Barnet have just about sealed it, holding a 14-point lead with seven fixtures to go. But this is what happens when you win your last five.
York City, Forest Green and Oldham seem most poised to secure one of the playoff spots up for grabs. Gateshead could crash out after losing their last five.
Top one:
1. Barnet (88 Pts, +49 GD, 39 MP)
