There is still real frustration at West Ham United that Jesse Lingard didn’t join us permanently in the summer of 2021.
Jesse Lingard joined West Ham on loan from Manchester United in January 2021, and went on to bag nine goals and four assists for us in 16 Premier League games.
West Ham desperately tried to sign Jesse Lingard on a permanent deal in the summer of 2021.
The now 32 was sensational for the Hammers, but he left the London Stadium to return to Old Trafford instead of joining us permanently.
Then he joined Nottingham Forest a year later, despite being heavily linked with West Ham again.
Lingard spoke about his failed West Ham switch, and hinted that outside influences scuppered the move, but held back a lot of the key details.
He may well regret not joining us permanently, but he is clearly loving life out in South Korea right now.
That said, he has something very interesting planned for life after football.
West Ham fans will not believe what Jesse Lingard has planned
Lingard has always been an extremely outgoing character, both on and off the pitch.
So perhaps it shouldn’t actually be a surprise that he has such grand plans for after he’s hung up his boots.
During a lengthy interview with the Daily Mail, Lingard opened up on what the future may hold for him.
He suggested that he wants to play for four more years, before taking on a huge career change:
“I’ve always thought of acting,’ he reveals. ‘I tell any footballer not to just rely on the football. If there’s investment there to be made that is safe, and you’ve got good people around to do it, then do it. If you want to do real estate then do it. Don’t be afraid.

“I don’t know if I would need acting lessons but maybe help with remembering lines and stuff like that. I think I need to start now to be honest. I’m trying to do something over here to get onto like a show already, or something. A cameo appearance.“
Lingard definitely has the character and personality needed to be an actor, and it will be very interesting to see whether or not he actually makes a real go of it.
What has Lingard actually said about failed West Ham move
Lingard told the Mail how he was actually close to joining the Hammers in the summer of 2022.
However, that obviously didn’t happen in the end.
And he hinted that outside influences with exterior motives got involved in the deal, before things started to go ‘sideways’:
“I’ll save that one for a rainy day,“ he says. “I don’t really want to go into detail but there was a great deal for me there on the table.
“Then all the people get involved, and, you know, things start to go sideways, and your mind gets swayed. At that time I really wasn’t a guy who spoke out.“
I would love to hear the real reason why Jesse Lingard didn’t join West Ham.
hopefully one day he will come out and tell the whole truth about the matter, no holds barred.
